AvCon 2009 Recap
The 2009 Avonlea Convention was a great celebration of the beloved show as well as the planning committee.
The three days of festivities were action packed and full of memories. The convention was kick-started by the Friday filming site tour. Hosted by Sullivan Entertainment’s Dan Matthews (who was a location manager for Road to Avonlea) the tour featured some of the most iconic locations from the series. The tour included the Stunt Bridge, Lucy Maud Montgomery’s House, Pine Grove Church, the Junior Ranger Camp, the Avonlea Farm, Anne’s Kissing Bridge and Diana Barry’s House. It was a jam-packed day full of interesting stories and revealing sites.
The convention picked up again on Saturday with visits from James O'Regan, John Welsman, Mag Ruffman, David Fox and Mickey Mahonen. Lots of interesting stories were shared and questions answered.
On Sunday, Martha Mann and Marilyn Lightstone spoke, again delighting the crowd. Sunday also featured the charity auction which raised over $5000 for Good Shepherd – a new AvCon fundraising record!
This was the final Avonlea Convention that will be hosted by the current committee. We thank them for their hard work over the years and the many good memories. Hopefully, another group will pick up the torch so that this won’t be the last AvCon.
