Anne Gives Thanks

Anne Gives Thanks
For our fellow Canadian fans, Thanksgiving weekend is fast approaching. While we’re enjoying that extra day off of work/school, spending time with our loved ones, and stuffing our faces with delicious food, it’s important to remember the little things we’re thankful for. I mean, it’s in the name of the holiday so that’s a big reminder for us to remember to give thanks! If Anne were to write a list of all the things she is thankful for, we think it might look a little something like this: 1. Octobers 2. Being allowed to stay at Green Gables on trial, even though she’s not a boy 3. Her bosom friend Diana Barry 4. The Lake of Shining Waters 5. Lover’s Lane 6. Poetry 7. Her puffed sleeve dress from Matthew 8. Her string of pearls (also from Matthew) 9. Matthew 10. Marilla This list isn’t far off from the list she made when she said her first prayer. When Anne first arrives at Green Gables, Marilla tries to teach her how to say her prayers before bed, with comical results. She instructs Anne to “thank God for your blessings and ask Him humbly for the things you want.” Anne Gives Thanks Anne follows these instructions to the best of her ability: Gracious heavenly Father, I thank Thee for the White Way of Delight and the Lake of Shining Waters and Bonny and the Snow Queen. I’m really extremely grateful for them. And that’s all the blessings I can think of just now to thank Thee for. As for the things I want, they’re so numerous that it would take a great deal of time to name them all so I will only mention the two most important. Please let me stay at Green Gables; and please let me be good-looking when I grow up. I remain, Yours respectfully, Anne Shirley. What are you thankful for this year? Would your list look anything like Anne’s? Maybe you can record a list in one of our vintage notebooks from our Period Collection at Shop At Sullivan!
