This beautiful summer weather is ideal road tripping weather. What better place to visit than the red shores of Prince Edward Island? Many Anne fans make the journey to Prince Edward Island to see the place this precocious redhead called home- Green Gables.
Those visiting between July and September of this summer are in for special treat. They will have the chance to see Green Gables as it would have looked when Anne was wandering its landscape. This is because there are now two on-site Anne Shirleys!
This interactive experience is part of the heritage sites interpretive programming, where Anne completes daily tasks and shares them with visitors. Such activities include making homemade ice cream (since we know how much Anne loves ice cream), crocheting, quilting, and butter making.
Anne remains entirely in character, and for most people meeting her in real life is “a dream come true,” as Anne herself would say. You can even get a picture with her and find others who have met her by posting on social media with #GreenGables or #PEIGreenGables.
You can read more about the interpretive program for Anne through the Parks Canada website: http://www.pc.gc.ca/eng/lhn-nhs/pe/greengables/activ/interpretation.aspx
There is also an excellent CBC article that covers Anne’s appearance at Green Gables:
I know for me, the chance to meet her would truly be an “epoch in my life.”
