There are countless literary references to be found in the works of L.M Montgomery. And some of them involve the most intriguing and scandalous episodes in our history. 

L.M. Montgomery did not shy away from romantic themes in her novels, though she often made her heroines wary of the idea.  Anne, for instance, was extremely reluctant to be mentioned alongside Gilbert’s name from the beginning of their acquaintance.
