They were married in the sunshine of the old orchard, circled by the loving and kindly faces of long-familiar friends. – Lucy Maud MontgomeryThis line may ring a bell for some – coming from the scene where Anne Shirley weds Gilbert Blythe. This sentimental setting was described so graciously by L.M. Montgomery, painting a picture of the perfect wedding for her readers. For years after Montgomery’s novel, readers were left to use their imagination to envision what the wedding would look like. Kevin Sullivan created the film series and captured Anne’s wedding in an immaculate and serene way. And that has been the only reenactment of the picturesque wedding, until now. Anne’s ability to bring out the best in people and shine her light has been an inspiration for photographer Jessica Zais since childhood. With the help of Stage Right Etc (who worked on styling, decor and florals), Jessica was able to shoot an Anne of Green Gables-inspired wedding. Located in Kelowna, British Columbia, she and her team managed to find locations which capture the breathtaking beauty of what we imagine to be the world of Anne. Regarding the shoot, Jessica said:
We had so much fun dreaming up all the scenes and details from the Anne of Green Gables series to incorporate. Stage Right Etc did a fantastic job of weaving in those details while still doing their own twist. The result of their efforts was nothing short of stunning! We had the help of the talented (and yummy) Sweet On You Designer Cakes who made mini carrot cakes (a nod to Gilbert’s nickname for Anne) as well as some gorgeous larger cakes. I found an awesome Anne and Gilbert in the model Bailey Woodward and her boyfriend Yanni Papadopoulos. Melissa Dacre did a gorgeous update of Anne’s traditional hairdo and Melissa Craven did a beautiful job of her makeup.
The set features Bailey Woodward as Anne, and her boyfriend Yanni Papadopoulos as Gilbert. The photographs include modern reinterpretations of various Anne scenes and themes: the Lady of Shalott, raspberry cordial, the White Way of Delight and the Lake of Shinning Waters. You can contact Jessica (on Twitter, Facebook and web) and Stage Right Etc (on Twitter, Facebook and web).
