Miss Stacey (portrayed by Marilyn Lightstone) comes to Avonlea to take over teaching the children and quickly becomes an inspiration to them. She encourages her students to think outside the box and to work toward achieving not only scholastic greatness, but whatever their dreams may be. Under Miss Stacey’s tutelage Anne flourishes and realizes that she wants to be a teacher as well as a writer. Miss Stacey’s compassion greatly influences Anne and it is with her recommendation that Anne is able to get a position teaching at a prestigious Girl’s School when she is older.
Marilyn Lightstone is a celebrated Canadian actress, known for appearances in a wide variety of television programs including Dennis the Menace, Bill & Ted’s Excellent Adventure and The Super Mario Bros, Super Show. She is best known for her heartwarming portrayal of Miss Muriel Stacey in Anne of Green Gables and Roadto Avonlea. She also starred in Sullivan’s first feature-length film The wild Pony. Among her other accolades in film are a Genie Award for Best Actress for Lies My Father Told Me, a Genie Award for Best Supporting Actress in Praise of Older Womenand a Best Actress Award at Mocow International Film Festival for The Tin Flute. Lightstone currently hosts an evening show on Toronto’s Classical 96 radio station. She is also a photographer, painter, mixed-media artist, and author.
